Spandex-Clad Austin City Council Members Making March 25 Announcement
March 25, 2010
The Austin City Council will officially proclaim April 9 as “Wear Spandex To Work Day.” Surprise spandexers — including at least one city council member — will show their support for the historic proclamation by shedding their suits and
slapping on their spandex. And it’s all in support of The Hill Country Ride for AIDS, the organization that helps others by riding bikes in hot spandex outfits.
Who Will We See in Spandex on March 25?
Council member Chris Riley will sport spandex as he reads the Wear Spandex To Work Day proclamation. Other spandexers to appear include Hill Country Ride for AIDS Executive Director David Smith and his spandexed entourage luminaries from advertising agencies nFusion and Enviromedia and a gathering of random downtown Austin workers who can’t wait to explain to their coworkers why they wore hot spandex fashions to work that day.
Where Can I Experience This Spectacle?
Just bike over to the Austin City Council Meeting on Thursday, March 25 at 5:30 p.m. This exciting meeting will be held at the Austin City Council Chambers at 301 W. 2nd Street.
Why on Earth Is this Happening?
Spandex is the fashion of choice for the April 24 Hill Country Ride for AIDS. This year’s theme is “Spandex Saves” (
www.spandexsaves.org). Anyone brave enough to wear spandex to work April 9 gets carte blanche to ask co-workers, customers, friends and even strangers to
donate to one of the United States’ largest AIDS rides. The Hill Country Ride for AIDS aims to raise $700,000 to help thousands of people in Central Texas with HIV/AIDS.
